Updated

Two MakerOps workspaces can agree to honor each other’s credentials. A school’s architecture shop and its main makerspace are a typical pair. A student signed off on the laser in one is treated as signed off in the other, without running the same training twice.

Each side decides for itself which of the other’s credentials it accepts. Nothing about either workspace’s members is shared when you partner. Only credential names are visible, and only so you can map them.

Before you start

  • Both workspaces need the Training & Credentials module turned on.
  • You need the Manage partner workspaces (honored credentials) permission. Only admins have it to start with.
  • You need the other workspace’s address: the part before .makerops.ai. There is no directory of workspaces to browse.

The page is Settings › Partner Workspaces.

Invite a workspace

  1. Open Settings › Partner Workspaces.
  2. Under Invite a workspace, type the other workspace’s address, such as architecture.
  3. Click Send invitation.

The other workspace’s admins get a Partner workspace invitation notification. Your invitation shows under Waiting for an answer until they respond. Click Cancel to withdraw it.

Accept an invitation

When another workspace invites yours, the invitation appears under Invitations to this workspace. Nothing is shared until you accept. Click Accept or Decline.

Once accepted, the other workspace appears under Partners on both sides.

Choose which of their credentials count here

Under each partner, you pick credentials of yours and say which of the partner’s credentials earn each one.

  1. Under the partner, open Honor another of your credentials… and pick one of yours. A row opens that reads “Your credential is earned with partner’s:”.
  2. Search for one of their credentials and pick it. Each one you pick this way is required.
  3. To accept another of their credentials in place of one, click or… on its row and pick it.
  4. Repeat for each credential of yours you want to honor.
  5. Click Save.

The line under each row reads back the rule, such as “Needs Laser Basics and Laser Lab”. Several short sign-offs of theirs can add up to one of yours. One of theirs can also earn several of yours: add it under each.

A credential of yours with none of theirs picked isn’t honored. To stop honoring one, remove its row and click Save.

A member who meets the rule with credentials held in that partner workspace, and keeps them current there, is treated as holding yours everywhere here: machines, trainings, doors and loans. Credentials from two different partners never add up to one rule. The partner makes its own choices about your credentials separately. Honoring works in one direction only.

Waivers can’t be mapped on either side. A waiver is a signature for one workspace, so it never carries over.

What honoring does

A person counts as holding your credential while all of these are true:

  • the partnership is active,
  • they hold the partner’s credentials your rule asks for, and none of them is revoked or expired there,
  • they are still an active member of the partner workspace.

The check is live. When the partner revokes a credential your rule needs, yours stops counting here on the next check. The same is true if they lapse there or the partner removes them as a member.

Honored credentials open machines, count as prerequisites for trainings and sessions, open doors, and count for self-serve loans. They also tick credential items on to-dos.

What honoring doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t issue your credential. The person holds the partner’s credential, not yours. A trainer can still issue yours to them.
  • It doesn’t award a composite credential. If one of yours requires several credentials and one of them is only honored, it counts while the honored one is valid, but it is never issued to them.
  • It doesn’t complete your in-person training. That training still shows as not done.
  • It isn’t in credential proof. Send proof lists only credentials issued by your own workspace.
  • It isn’t in your records. Credential holder lists, counts, the LMS dashboard, expiry notices, exports and reports show only credentials your workspace issued.

How it looks to members and staff

Honored credentials are listed apart from the ones you issued, under Honored from partner workspaces. Each carries a badge that reads Honored from and the partner’s name. If the partner’s names differ from yours, the names of their credentials that earned it are shown too. So is the date the honoring ends, when there is one: where the rule accepts alternatives and the person holds more than one, the badge names the one that lasts longest.

  • Members see them on their training page on the web and in the app.
  • Staff see them on the member’s profile on the web and in the app.

There is nothing to revoke here. The partner manages them.

End a partnership

Under the partner, click End partnership and confirm. Either side can end it at any time.

Their credentials stop counting here at once, and yours stop counting there. Both sides’ mappings are deleted. To partner again, send a new invitation and map the credentials again from scratch.

Past invitations and ended partnerships are listed under History.
