The admin menu

Every item in the on-device admin menu, how the lock works, and how to set an admin PIN.

The admin menu is the controller’s on-device toolbox. To open it, hold RED (STOP) for about five seconds on the idle screen. It also opens from the connecting screen and from a fault screen such as OFFLINE.

Move with UP / DOWN, select with GREEN, and press STOP to go back. You can’t open the menu during someone’s session. Wait for the idle screen.

The lock

Once a controller belongs to your space, the items that change it are locked and show an orange padlock. Four items are always open: FIRMWARE VERSION, NETWORK STATUS, SIGNAL METER and SERIAL NUMBER. A brand-new controller that isn’t in a space yet is fully open.

Choose a locked item and the controller shows LOCKED and a QR code. Unlock it in one of two ways:

  • With the app. Tap Scan in the MakerOps app and scan the QR. Your account needs permission to manage controllers. The panel shows UNLOCKED with your name and opens the item.
  • With the PIN. Press GREEN, then enter the controller’s 4-digit admin PIN. Use UP / DOWN to change each digit and GREEN to move on. This is the only way in while the controller is offline.

The menu locks again when you leave it with STOP, after 2 minutes without a button press, when a session starts, or after 10 minutes at most. Five wrong PINs in a row block PIN entry for 5 minutes (the app scan still works).

Set an admin PIN

On the website, open Controllers, click the controller’s settings icon, go to the Hardware tab, and use Admin menu lock to set a 4-digit PIN. The new PIN takes effect once the controller confirms its settings.

Set one on every controller. Without a PIN, a controller that is offline can’t be unlocked at all, except for WIFI SETUP, which stays open so the unit can always be moved to a new network.

CHECK FOR UPDATESYesAsks the platform whether newer firmware exists. Shows CHECKING FOR UPDATES, then UP TO DATE or UPDATE FOUND. If an update is due, it starts right away. NO ANSWER means the platform didn’t reply within 15 seconds. OFFLINE means the controller isn’t connected.
NETWORK STATUSNoWi-Fi network, signal, server connection (ONLINE or OFFLINE), IP address, netmask, gateway, MAC address (MAC) and uptime.
SIGNAL METERNoLive Wi-Fi signal with lowest and highest readings. Use it to choose a mounting spot or chase dropouts. UP resets the readings.
TEMP READINGSYesThe enclosure air temperature and the chip’s own temperature. The chip normally reads well above room temperature. UP switches the machine’s power on for a load test and DOWN switches it off. Leaving the page always switches it off.
TRAIN NO-LOADYesPlug-through installs only. Measures what the machine draws when switched on but not cutting, for the switch-left-on check. Turn the machine’s switch on, press GREEN (power runs for about 3 seconds), press GREEN to save, then turn the switch off. UP clears a saved value.
SHOW BINDING QRYesShows the pairing QR. You rarely need it, because an unpaired controller shows its QR on its own.
SERIAL NUMBERNoThe controller’s unique ID, the same one the platform shows. Have it handy when you contact support.
WIFI SETUPYes, except when offline with no PIN setAsks ARE YOU SURE?, then erases the saved Wi-Fi details and restarts in setup mode. Use it to move to a new network or to enter a changed password. On firmware 0.9.60 and later, the CONNECTING screen points here when the network refuses the saved details. See Connecting to Wi-Fi.
REBOOTYesRestarts the controller straight away.

Nothing in this menu changes your session rules, which live in the platform. But note that WIFI SETUP and REBOOT take the controller offline, and TEMP READINGS and TRAIN NO-LOAD can switch the machine’s power on.
